The Most Amazing Bartenders!

April 9th SOSO held it's fifth So Sophisticated event at CUSTOM HOUSE. This night was the first time we introduced a little bit different of a concept. Custom House has three restaurants and the SOSO members were invited to dine before joining in the fun at the bar with the rest of the guests. The Custom House bartenders were the best I have encountered as they were outrageously fun and silly with a lot of spunk and showmanship.

SOSO After Hours Party

RUBY as usual, was nothing less than brilliant on the 25th of March. The party continued on afterwards with some of the dedicated SOSO members at Alexandra's apartment located close by. Her hospitality just doesn't cease to amaze me... Thanks for a wonderful and cozy evening at RUBY and at your private home Alexandra!

We look forward to the next event on April 9th at CUSTOM HOUSE. This is the first time SOSO members are invited to join in and have dinner reservations as part of the evenings offerings aside from the usual good cocktail going and socializing at the bar.

For those of you who don't know RUBY, it's a little hard to find but worth the effort. They are masters at mixology and superb service in a bar that feels like someone's beautiful old luxurious apartment with a homey atmosphere.. like visiting friends at a private party. We've got a fabulous cocktail for Tuesday: 'So Tokyo'

A gin based long drink with lashings of white peach puree, lychee liqueur, citrus juices and organic ginger with a Thai basil garnish. Its fresh & tangy and exclusively served with Ruby-love for the SOSO suspects.

"You'll love it as much as we do, I know it." Rasmus-Owner, who will be in on Tuesday and have a few himself and looks forward to seeing you all.


There's nothing like the first time... we loved RUBY and RUBY loved us! So back to RUBY we go.

What a great way to celebrate the original SOSO members and venue that helped make So Sophisticated so successful in the first place.

For those of you that missed out on the first ever delightful So Sophisticated evening back in January at RUBY, here is your chance to see where it all began!

We and RUBY are looking forward to welcoming the first original warm and friendly crowd back, including the new friends we've made along the way... plus some totally new faces!

What's lined up?

We last had a cozy relaxed evening at Honey Ryder Lounge. Many were plagued by the flu and when evening came we were hit by a snow storm. Surprise Denmark in March! Regardless, we had a good turn out at Honey Ryder Lounge and it was, as usual a very enjoyable evening with Friends and SOSO members.

The membership is growing every day with over 700 members but the venues are small, accommodating only 80 to 200 guests. So this is the first month SOSO is starting to host two events a month to give more people the opportunity to join in the fun.

March 25th we are back where it all began at RUBY!

We'll see what we end up with but you can be sure Wednesday, June 25th will be extra special as it's Alexandra Nilsson's Birthday! Alexandra (AKA "Mascot", "Professional Hostess" & "Style Queen") has been my partner in crime helping to meet and greet SOSO members at every So Sophisticated event. Without her beautiful and charming presence, not to mention abundance of smiles, SOSO just wouldn't be the same.

The summer should bring some special events as we would like to utilize the outdoor venues. Halvandet in the daytime sun by the water. Honey Ryder Lounge's Tikki themed terrace where you'll be drinking out of coconuts and lava cups and at the same time have an opportunity to cool off in the Absolut Ice Bar. Bar Rouge will have their outdoor terrace open and ready as well.

Remember, the day after each event is held, the next So Sophisticated event is announced and SOSO sends out the invitations.

People are asking "What is SOSO?"

Happy SOSO Members at a So Sophisticated event held at Honey Ryder Lounge March 4th.

SOSO is...

A brand and acronym of So Sophisticated. SOSO is a facebook group where members can join to receive invitations to So Sophisticated. So Sophisticated is a monthly cocktail social club in Copenhagen held on weekdays at a different stylish and upscale location each time.

SOSO is open to anyone on facebook in the Denmark network. The members make up a "sophisticated" mixed crowd of Danes and internationals, students and professionals, young and young at heart, beautiful people, strange people and fun people. SOSO has new members joining every day and in three short months a network of almost 1000 people has been attained.

The one thing the group has in common is that everyone comes with a good attitude and ready to have fun. We socialize, network, flirt, chit chat and make new friends expanding our social circle. People invite their friends and meet their friends' friends at So Sophisticated. People even have the opportunity to meet their facebook friends live! Even if one comes alone, they are sure to be comfortable and have met lots of nice friendly people by the end of the evening.

Then of course there is the great cocktails! SOSO is held at some of the hottest bars and lounges in town with the best bartenders in the industry. The group gets people out and about town to places they wouldn't normally have a good occasion to go visit. The venues are always thrilled to host the So Sophisticated events... and why not? We are fabulous!

OUR BAR

The second So Sophisticated event for SOSO members was hosted by OUR BAR on February 13th, 2008. There were over 200 people that attended throughout the exciting evening. Even with all the new curious random people that joined in due to the publicity from Politiken the crowd held true to what makes So Sophisticated so unique... I would describe the members as vibrant, sociable, urbane, friendly, fun, cozy, open, warm, charming, happy, cosmopolitan, mixed, sophisticated and smiley that love networking, flirting, meeting and greeting.

OUR BAR was very conducive for conversation with it's warm atmosphere and the superb cocktails don't hurt. The "OUR Funny Valentine" special cocktail was a delicious hit and my only critique was that they couldn't be made fast enough!

Thank you to Vladimir, Nicholai and the rest of the talented staff for creating a very memorable evening!

SOSO is Worth a Mention...

Betsey Sook is the author of a blog called Bliv Smuk - alt om skønhed. So Sophisticated got a mention. Lately whenever she comes across something that she thinks "Wow, that's cool" it most often comes from New York and more specifically Brooklyn!

What's that got to do with the SOSO group?

"Hver gang, jeg faldt over noget fedt (altså ikke en stol lavet af gamle plasticflasker), men noget, der var lækkert design, selv om det var genbrug… ja, det kom såmænd fra Brooklyn... Lige en sidste krølle på New York historien kommer i dag d. 18. februar, hvor jeg har søgt optagelse i en club, der hedder So Sophisticated - og ja, arrangøren er også fra Brooklyn."

Facebooks cocktail-gruppe inviterer til fest i aften
Facebookgruppe inviterer til sofistikerede cocktailfester en gang om måneden. Næste gang i aften på Ourbar i Pisserenden.

Sofistikerede københavnere kan nu mødes månedligt over sofistikerede cocktails. Den amerikanske tilflytter Maria Fazzingo har efter tre år i Danmark taget initiativ til en månedlig cocktailbar.

Oprindeligt kom ideen, fordi hun ville se mere til vennerne. Men nu inviteres resten af København også med.

»Jeg var træt af, at jeg ikke så mine venner jævnligt og tænkte over, hvordan jeg kunne komme til at se dem oftere«, forklarer den 38-årige fotograf.

»Min egen lejlighed er for lille til, at vi alle kunne være dér og hygge os sammen, og restaurantture ville blive for besværligt med regninger og præcise mødetider«, fortæller hun.

Et månedligt cocktailparty på en ugedag blev derfor løsningen, og gennem facebookgruppen SOSO - eller So Sofisticated - inviteres samtlige medlemmer nu til begivenhederne.

Udansk mingling
Første arrangement var 22. januar på den hjemligt indrettede cocktailbar Ruby, og her mødte omkring 100 forventningsfulde cocktailelskere op.

»Det gik over al forventning«, jubler Maria Fazzingo, der ikke mener, hun kunne have stablet arrangementet på benene uden Facebook.

Her startede hun i december facebookgruppen ved at invitere sine venner, som hun opfordrede til at invitere deres venner.

Gruppen er åben for alle og har nu 460 medlemmer.

»Jeg kender ikke 100 mennesker personligt, så det var fantastisk at se så mange til SOSO´s første cocktailparty. Folk hilste på hinanden og snakkede på kryds og tværs«, fortæller Maria Fazzingo.

Hun glædede sig især over danskernes åbenhed til arrangementet.

»Det er ikke så dansk, det dér med at gå rundt og introducere sig selv og networke med mennesker, der er helt forskellige fra én selv«, mener Fazzingo.

Til hvert arrangement serveres en særlig cocktail.

På Ruby bød bartenderne på en specialmixet variation af drinken Aviation.

Næste SOSO arrangement er 13. februar på Ourbar i Studiestræde.

Tonight at OUR BAR

We are looking forward to tonight's So Sophisticated event at OUR BAR.

Two hundred people are on the guest list. Thanks to the Politiken publicity, that's twice as many from last time at RUBY as well as over 450 members now for the facebook group SOSO.

This month’s featured cocktail that has been designed and crafted by OUR BAR especially for SOSO is appropriately named considering the season, “OUR Funny Valentine”. Fresh raspberries are muddled and mixed with a trilogy of Smirnoff Black Copper Distilled Premium Vodka (so enjoyed by Russia's aristocracy and Tzars) Monin French Raspberry Liqueur and a hint of Frangelico, the Italian wild hazelnut Liqueur. The cocktail is then topped off with passion fruit juice, cranberry juice and a delicate rose petal garnish.

Sounds like a love potion to me…

OUR BAR Wednesday, February 13th

After the huge success of our first So Sophisticated event at RUBY, we are doing it again! OUR BAR will be hosting us in February and I just can't wait!

OUR BAR’s ambition is simply to be the cities best cocktail bar. The drinks here are created by some of the most talented friendly bartenders, that you can have a conversation with…with ease. OUR BAR is a friendly place which opens it’s arms to a mixed crowd, perfect for hosting SOSO’s members for So Sophisticated.

The atmosphere of OUR BAR is “Hygge” with it’s soft lighting and comfortable couches. The interior is decorated with warm colors, high bar stools and tables in dark wood, brown leather chairs, comfortable nooks and corners with candlelight and flowers. The whole place gives off a warm and welcoming vibe conducive to intimate conversation.

OUR BAR is not at all snobbish except when it comes to their cocktails! Their goal is to lift the cocktail culture up. Think Gastronomy of cocktails. The cocktails are mixed with artistry and craft making the drinks absolutely amazing! OUR BAR’s cocktail menu is seasonal, offering the time of year’s best ingredients of fresh fruits and a healthy dose of spirits guaranteeing quality. January 25th Politiken posted an article about "So sophisticated" on their website iBYEN. It was quite the surprise considering I wasn't expecting such a great turn out and success. I am still receiving an overwhelming response of people's positive feedback, new members of SOSO and RSVPs for the next event at OUR BAR for February 13th. Thanks again to everyone that attended and made it the wonderful evening it was.

SOSO at RUBY

The first event for "So Sophisticated" was a HUGE success! A Hundred people showed up throughout the night to socialize and sip on cocktails. The special cocktail "SoSo Aviation" was a hit and so was the crowd... so open and fun. Everyone was smiling, mingling, flirting and networking. Thank you to everyone that attended! RUBY could not have been a better choice for the first event. The staff was incredible and friendly. They give great service with a smile and helped make the evening as fabulous as it was. Can't wait to do it again!

The next event is set for Wednesday, February 13th at OUR BAR. It's much bigger than RUBY and so I'm hoping for an even better turn out and yet another great featured cocktail. OUR BAR has two separate areas and lots of cozy nooks and corners to socialize in.

The owners and their talented bar staff have designed a special cocktail just for SO SOPHISTICATED and it’s nothing short of spectacular! It has equal parts quality and simplicity, with a dash of controversy! It’s a champagne cocktail appropriately named SOSO AVIATION, a twist if you will on the classic AVIATION.

This special cocktail SOSO AVIATION can be obtained for one night only at RUBY, an establishment where the vanishing art of mixology is still pursued with zeal, if not fanaticism. SOSO AVIATION is a modern take on a timeless classic: The Aviation, which they’ve jazzed up with Champagne…

It’s a Champagne Cocktail with Plymouth gin, Maraschino liqueur, sugar syrup, and a wee bit of lemon juice. All in all a dry, sophisticated cocktail – a bit boozy but wonderfully moreish (so good that you want more!) This is an incredibly elegant drink and If you think you don’t like gin, this cocktail will change your mind! You will love the subtle cherry flavor the Maraschino provides, and the way the flavors balance to create such a crisp, enjoyable drink. A wonderfully subtle balance of sweet and sour, with the floral notes of the gin and Maraschino working together sublimely.

Despite only containing a few ingredients, it has a very complex, yet very balanced flavor, however it's the maraschino that makes this cocktail stand tall. Maraschino is a liqueur that gains its flavor from Dalmation Marasca cherries. During production the whole cherry, including the pits, seeds and stems, is used which lends an almost almond like taste to the spirit. It has a fresh, slightly dry, bittersweet, peppery nuttiness taste to it which is very different from regular cherry liqueurs, and somewhat hard to describe... Ask for it by name!

SOSO

It was just a couple of weeks ago I started inviting a few friends to "So Sophisticated" and started the group SOSO on facebook. Friends have started inviting friends which is what it's all about. Now the word is spreading and there is over 70 people on the RSVP and over 55 people that "maybe" are going to join. Which makes for a nice group of people for the venue that comfortably holds up to 50 people for a cozy intimate evening and up to 80 people full capacity.

I have gotten a lot of positive feedback. Seems Copenhagen NEEDS something like this! There is now over 75 members and growing of the facebook group SOSO which will keep people informed of the future fabulous events and information.

I can't wait to meet and greet my friend's friends and their friends over splendid cocktails in a great bar! The owners of RUBY are super wonderful and sweet people who are really looking forward to the event as well.
